Pregnancy is a time of structural, physiological and spiritual change in your life.
Prenatal Massage Therapy and Acupuncture are wonderful and safe choices that provide natural relief for many of the discomforts experienced during this transformative time.
You can select acupuncture or massage alone or combine the two modalities in one lovely and comprehensive session. Our clinic specializes in women’s health and offers a quiet, spa-like atmosphere for an exceptionally relaxing experience. I use organic oils, a variety of props and cushions and a gentle approach
to ensure your comfort and safety.
Acupuncture is a safe modality throughout your entire pregnancy. In the first trimester acupuncture is especially helpful for reducing nausea and vomiting associated with morning sickness. It can also alleviate fatigue, nasal congestion, headaches, poor digestion, heartburn and increase circulation.
Acupuncture for Breech Position
If your baby is in a breech position, I ideally start working with you at approximately week 35 but I have had a lot of sucess turning babies at 37-39 weeks, using acupuncture, moxibustion and exercises for optimal fetal positioning. I do not treat or manipulate your baby. However, the protocols I utilize are shown in numerous studies to increase the likelihood of breech resolution. Typically, about 52% of breech presentations will resolve on their own. With the addition of acupuncture, moxibustion and Spinning Babies techniques, this percentage increases to 80%.
Labor Prep vs Labor Induction
In my years of experience, I’ve found it very beneficial to separate ‘labor induction’ from ‘labor prep’ to. This way I can better communicate the process in which acupuncture works best.
Acupuncture for labor induction is used on site such as a birthing center, home or hospital where the laboring mom is experiencing some issues. This may include; post due date, her water breaking but no contraction starting, prodromal labor, stalled labor or malposition of baby (for example OP aka ‘sunny side up’). In these cases, I arrive on site and don’t leave until the mom is in active labor again or until the baby is born which can take anywhere from an hour to four or more. I charge a flat rate for on-site visits.
Acupuncture for labor prep is performed in my office. The focus of the treatments is to reduce symptoms related to latent medical issues such as pre-eclampsia, pregnancy induced hypertension, anxiety etc. Since baby initiates labor, together we will discover what may be holding baby up and work towards unblocking the path and encouraging movement. This can take two or three treatments. Its rare that one treatment will start contractions but it can help baby get into a more desirable position and allow your cervix to soften. This is why I ask that patients commit to at least two treatments.
