Prenatal massage therapy is a time-tested modality that provides far more than just relaxation during your pregnancy. Research demonstrates that prenatal massage can also alleviate stress, anxiety, insomnia, and edema.
During the early stages of your pregnancy my focus is to provide you with overall relaxation while promoting blood and lymph circulation throughout your body. My gentle massage techniques encourage essential, nutrient rich blood flow to the placenta. I also gently stimulate your lymph system to help eliminate excess fluids to reduce pain in your wrists, arms, legs and feet.
As your pregnancy progresses to the second and third trimesters I focus on reducing stress and strain on your weight bearing joints. My aim is to relieve discomforts associated with changes in your body’s structural alignment such as muscle spasms, neck, back and hip pain. Prenatal massage is also effective in alleviating pubic symphysis pain.
During your first and second trimesters you will be provided with supportive, soft cushions to reduce any extra strain on your lower back and pelvis. During your third trimester, you will be placed in a side-lying position and supported by pillows for maximum comfort. Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, a variation of massage techniques can be used including Swedish/relaxation massage, therapeutic massage, or a combination of appropriate techniques to address your specific requests and needs.
